Meet Maya

Maya was 17 and struggling with addiction. During the most difficult time, she was abusing substances daily and was no longer living at home with her family. Feeling out of control and hopeless, Maya’s family placed her in a residential facility for substance abuse treatment.

Maya completed residential treatment only to relapse after returning home. Her family was frustrated that residential treatment failed and they were unaware of other options. With nowhere else to turn, Maya’s family placed her back in a residential facility, unsure whether it was the right answer.

To protect the identity of the people involved, we've changed names but not stories.

The family was determined to work together knowing that Maya’s success depended on creating a strong, supportive home.

After completing her second placement, Maya and her parents were referred to Multidimensional Family Therapy. The family was determined to work together knowing that Maya’s success depended on creating a strong, supportive home. Through intensive in-home treatment with MDFT, the family addressed issues that contributed to Maya’s behavior. Together, the entire family learned new ways to communicate with each other, which led to building trusting and positive relationships.

UPDATE: The family successfully reunited and Maya was able to live happily at home. She has since graduated from high school and now has many opportunities ahead of her.
